Primary Bath Plans
You guys, this project has been on my list since the day we moved into our house in 2018. In fact, this space is probably inarguably the worst space in the whole house. So bad, that I didn’t even think I could make it a little better. I left it as it was until I could fully renovate it. The day has come…sort of. I had planned to save and save and save some more (I have big hopes for this room) and hire out the work. Well, circumstances have changed and I have found myself with some extra time, but not a lot of extra money. So, I am planning to tackle this space myself! I will be doing it in phases. Starting with the shower, which used to be a tub. And I will be learning and sharing it along the way. You should definitely follow along on my insta, where I will be sharing in real time.
Here is what the bathroom has looked like for the past five years, and probably the 35 years before that. I literally hate everything! Starting with the green carpet you step on when you walk in, then you look up to see pinecone wallpaper, a green formica countertop, a very dated light fixture that at least one bulb doesn’t work at any given time. To your right, you will see a teeny tiny almond color plastic shower, a matching almond toilet that certainly does not have a soft close lid. Slam! And last, but not least, a tub that seems giant, but really just takes up a lot of room. The jets have never worked and we only ever used it when we were renovating the upstairs bathroom.

My plans start with changing the layout of this room. The vanity is the only piece that will stay in place. I have already demoed the tub and that will become a large walk-in shower with a bench to prop my leg to shave or a place for kids to sit to get their feet washed. The current shower will be demoed and the toilet will be set in its place. Finally, where the toilet currently is, will be a chic storage tower.
One element I am really excited about is the arched nooks I plan to build around the vanity mirror and the storage tower. I originally envisioned a custom vanity and storage, but since that is not in the budget at this time, I want give the pre-made vanity and matching storage tower a custom look, so I will be building custom arched nooks.
I have my work cut out for me, but it will be so worth it to give fresh life to one of the last spaces in my home that have remained untouched since we bought the home.
