Awesome Deck Update

I’ve been working my butt off getting the inside of the house up to snuff, I have not had much of a chance to tackle the outside. That and the weather here in Michigan was cold until mid April, then raining since then. My decking out the deck was set back a little. This past week I finally got around to assembling my new outdoor furniture. My one big outdoor furniture purchase this summer was an outdoor sofa. I love the one I found at World Market for a really great price. 20% right now for Rewards members. No seating area would be complete without a table top set your summer cocktail and prop your feet up. I partnered with Autonomous for this beautiful teak wood table. I loved the beautiful wood and the detail of the curved edges. Our deck stretches across the entire back of our house and this section is directly outside our master bedroom. Thanks to Autonomous, this is the perfect spot for a drink, or hanging out after dinner. This is also the place where I’m going to set up our outdoor movie night and I picture a lot of baby snuggles happening here this fall.

Next up, sprucing up the front porch!

World Market Outdoor Favorites

As I round out the furniture shopping for the sunroom and start sourcing a few key pieces for the deck, I definitely have outdoor furniture on the brain. I can’t stop scrolling World Market’s outdoor assortment! They have so many great key pieces at amazing prices. I’ve added a few items to my cart and was awaiting a sale before purchasing. Well, it’s here!! 20% off all outdoor with code 20OUTDOOR all the way until April 29th!

Here are my favorite outdoor items from this season at World Market.

One Room Challenge Week 1 // Sunroom Plans

I’m doing it again. I’m a glutton for punishment. I’m tackling another One Room Challenge! If you don’t know, the One Room Challenge is a big bi-annual blogger event where 20 featured designers and many guest participants make-over a room in 6 weeks and document their progress weekly on their blog or Instagram.

We moved into our home mid-November and it being winter in Michigan we have not used our sunroom once. This is a fantastic room, we will absolutely live in all summer long. Currently it’s a non-heated, fully enclosed room with three sliding glass doors, very raw wood paneling, beautiful glass double doors into the kitchen and some bad track lighting. It is basically a wood box waiting for my love!

My plan is to give it a coat (or several) of my favorite white paint, Polar Bear by Behr, then rip out the carpet and either lay tile or stencil a really cool pattern. I already have most of the furniture I will use, so it will be a matter of cosmetic and styling and adding a lot more plants. I really want this to feel like a true indoor/outdoor seamless space. Since we don’t have a dining room, our dinning table will live here, a long with a little lounge area and a buffet with cocktail-making fixins.

This project is going to be significantly less work that my last One Room Challenge (my mom’s very dated kitchen), but my schedule is a lot crazier and on reveal day I will be 24 weeks pregnant! So follow along and let’s see how I fare!

Modern Front Porch Inspiration

It’s finally starting to feel like spring here in Michigan and despite my list of projects inside the house, I am itching to turn my focus outdoors. Since we moved in in November, we have not touched the outside. I started gathering some inspo to deck our our front porch and bring in some modern charm. Greenery, concrete planters, modern house numbers, a cute door mat and a killer light are the essentials for a modern porch. Scroll down to see my favorite images.

Dream Home 2.0

Moving, with all it's headaches, is so fun for us designer-types, because it offers a fresh start and a whole new set of projects to tackle. A few years back, when we were still living in New York City, Instagram was just an infant and I was deep in the height of my Pinterest scrolling addiction, I designed my dream home on paper. After that, we moved into a rental house upstate, then bought our first home. Five years later, we moved across the country and are embarking on the journey to buy our (possible) forever home. Looking back on my original dream home post, I think had this home come to fruition, I would still be happy with my choices, but now my style is a little more refined, a little more modern and a little less colorful.
