Our little Monroe turned 1 on September 5th! We celebrated with a Lion King themed birthday. It was a magical day celebrating our sweet boy. We had our close family over, took advantage of the lovely late summer weather, got to enjoy our updated deck and keep things Covid safe. The theme came about during the past year when Monroe was fussy, Kyle would show him the opening scene from the Lion King and he was mesmerized. I took inspiration from the movie, the Broadway musical and my collection of African textiles to come up with this sophisticated take on the theme. The talented Megan Schaap captured the details, family and guest of honor so perfectly!

Despite skipping his nap, Monroe had a great day celebrating his first year. His darling jumper is from Rebel GR.

The printable invites from Dove Handcrafted via Etsy were absolutely perfect.

After the birthday boy, the cakes by AP Baked Goods and the cookies by Kind Cookie Co. stole the show!

Mud Cloth Cake

I printed my monthly photos of Monroe to display his cuteness framed by a mud cloth inspired balloon installation.

It was my dream to return to Cinque Terre, a place we fell in love with on our Italian Honeymoon back in 2012, to renew our vows. I wanted to bring our whole family on an Italian adventure to celebrate this milestone. We booked Luca Vieri to photograph the celebration. My boys walked me down the aisle carrying bouquet I clip from the side of the road. My husband and I shared heartfelt notes to each outer, over looking the sea, before heading down to Monterosso Al Mare for photos and dinner. The day was truly magical!

I looked at a lot of tutorials online and patched together the plan that I thought would work best for my family - twin over queen - and my aesthetic. We made it! Another One Room Challenge in the books! I am just so happy with how this bright and modern kids bath turned out! Started from a dated 80’s bathroom with a blue formica countertop and carpet and gave her a major glow-up in the form of a complete renovation. Now - classic selections with a special layer to make it a happy, updated space for my kiddos.

For the reveal part 1, I’m showing you the everyday wear of my kid’s bath reno. Next week she will get dressed up! I designed this bathroom to be updated classic at its core. The subway tile on the walls and the mosaic on the floor are available at big box stores, but I’ve mixed them in unexpected ways. The bones of this bathroom have longevity and flexibility. I could paint, wallpaper, add paneling and it will all work with the tile, vanity and lighting. The color and fun I will be sharing next week are the frosting and can be easily changed and updated as my kids grow.

For a kids bath I need a true bath mat, something washable, with the non-slip grips, that can take a beating, get wet and is also comfy enough to kneel on to give the kids a bath. DIY Lego Table

I finally hit my breaking point of having Lego sets scattered on the coffee table for weeks on end. So I decided to design and build a table for my son to construct and be creative on. This table is a perfect balance of form and function. The light-weight top lifts off to reveal lots of separated organization compartments and it’s bold legs are updated and on-trend. As a maker and a mama, it was so sweet to watch Oliver get excited about something I made for him.
